Job Description

The Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Houston is currently seeking applications and nominations for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank starting in Fall 2017 in the Electric power and Energy Systems area which includes, power systems, electric machines and drive systems, power conversion systems, distributed/alternate energy sources and micro-grid systems, energy storage systems, with particular interest in modeling, simulation, implementation, and performance analysis of integration and interfacing with the established power grid infrastructure. A PhD in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong commitment to research and teaching is required. Industrial experience is highly desirable.

The emerging fields in Electric Power and Energy Systems are represented by recent advances in smart grid, alternative energy sources like wind/solar farm and other areas in power systems that combine real-time and distributed data acquisition and control systems, complex data analytics, integrated modeling and simulation for optimization and distributed operations. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate a track record of research, teaching and industrial interaction in one or more areas of Electric Power and Energy Systems. It is expected that the selected applicant would establish a research program in an appropriate area of technology associated with the fundamental building blocks of this emerging field. Faculty members are expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, develop interdisciplinary research partnerships on campus and with local and regional research and industry sectors, including but not limited to Houston Energy Research Park and Houston Energy Corridor. In addition to establishing individual research, the selected candidate is expected to contribute to current teaching activity in the Electrical Power Engineering Technology Program and contribute in the development of courses for a new MS and PHD program track in electric power and energy systems. The department is seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, graduate, and undergraduate student population.

With state-of-the-art science, technology, and research facilities, such as the Power Electronics, Biomedical Imaging, Biotechnology, and Sensors Labs, the Department has experienced steady growth in research funding and student enrollment, and currently has over 2,300 students, 35 full-time faculty and staff, and offers four B.S. and 4 M.S. degrees and spends over $1.0 M from external sources. Minimum Qualifications
